A great sucsess...
Anyone in Liskeard Town Centre on Saturday 2nd
Dec couldn't fail to miss the festive goings on,what with music
and sound delivered around the town hosted by our very own DJ
Peter Dukes and Radio Cornwall, Santa and his walking Reindeer
Sleigh had children processing through the town all making quite
a spectacle, despite the torrential downpours of rain!
As the afternoon drew into evening the merry-go-round
and smell of roasted chestnuts and meats wafted through the streets
adding to the festive atmosphere culminating in the grand finale;
the switching on of the Town's Christmas lights and fireworks
at 6pm.
On behalf of all the Chamber Members we would
like to say a huge 'THANK YOU!' to all those individuals and businesses
who tirelessly gave up time, money and quite possibly a bit of
their sanity to help make this years event another fantastic spectacle
to be remembered in the town for years to come.
Well done Liskeard, a special event to be proud
of. Looking forward to planning next year already, don't forget
we always need fresh volunteers and ideas for the 'Chamber Events
Committee' so get your ideas cooking and come along to do your
bit.
Best wishes for the festive season

Liskeard was in Bloom this summer!
The Liskeard Town Council, volunteers from
The Liskeard Chamber of Commerce and Tarten Down Nurseries,
have worked in partnership this year to revive the ‘In Bloom’
campaign for Liskeard Town Centre.
We are delighted with the result and the response
from local businesses who have contributed to the colourful
display by purchasing baskets and troughs.
The Town Council have made it all possible by securing the funding
to subsidise the watering costs in addition to the costs of
replanting the Parade displays.
The team from Tarten Down Nurseries which
include the Hind Brothers, have worked incredibly hard to deliver
quality plants and maintain the displays throughout the season.
We all hope that our combined efforts have been enjoyed by residents
and vistor’s throughout the summer and we look forward to an
even bigger display for 2007.
Many thanks to
all who participated.
Liskeard welcomes Amber Markets to
the Town Centre
on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th November
The Market will bring the best of European produce
including charcuterie, freshly baked breads, an extensive choice
of cheeses, biscuits from Brittany, olives from the south and
delicious French honey. There will also be a chance to taste the
wines and ciders from France and Spain.
A least 15 stalls will be lining The Parade,
giving the town a real market town experience. With so many good
cafés and restaurants within the town centre, we hope that
residents and visitors to the town will use the two day event
to shop, relax and enjoy the atmosphere that the market brings.
There’s great choice in the shops too, with
many of them now preparing their stock for Christmas.
Why not make a day (or two) of it and enjoy exploring the choice
and the great personal service that Liskeard has to offer?
We look forward
to seeing you.

GUEST SPEAKER, CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MEETING
MONDAY, 27TH MARCH 2006
Andrew Deacon, Senior Partner with Caunters,
Solicitors, The Parade, Liskeard spoke at the March meeting of
the Liskeard Chamber of Commerce about recent developments in
property legislation and regulations relating to leasehold property
and concluded with a synopsis regarding the introduction of Home
Information Packs (HIPS) which will have a tremendous impact on
the property market as from June 2007. If you would like further
information regarding this legislation e-mail Andrew on legal@caunters.co.uk
or telephone 01579 343165.
GUEST SPEAKER, CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
MEETING
MONDAY, 27TH FEBRUARY 2006
The February meeting of the Chamber of Commerce
took place at The Hotel Nebula. The Guest Speaker was Jenny Deacon,
ICT Development Tutor from Caradon Adult Education Centre. Jenny
came to talk to the Chamber members about a new project that has
been launched: Caradon Business Initiative.
Caradon Adult Education Centre has been offering
a wide variety of IT training over many years but is very much
aware that there is an untapped market in the form of the local
business community. It is likely that local businesses are way
beyond the beginners’ stage and may not require qualifications
but need to advance the skills that their employees already have.
Caradon Business Initiative has been set up
to offer customised ICT training at competitive prices to local
and small businesses. The project is intended for employers, to
help them meet the training needs of their personnel. The courses
can be offered in-house for two-hourly sessions over an agreed
period of time, or in the Adult Education Centre in the form of
intensive six-hour sessions. No prior ICT experience, training
or qualifications are required. The training is based on the participants’
individual requirements.
The project has been running for six months
and has already successfully helped local firms of solicitors,
auctioneers/valuers and financial consultants.

The
Trafalgar Anniversary Dispatch Day
Liskeard August 8th 2005
A resounding success and a celebration
of history that certainly brought a colourful display to Liskeard
Town Centre on Monday 6th June. The crowd that gathered to see
the wonderful costumes and horse drawn carriage arrive on The
Parade, was impressive as were all of the activities staged by
The Town Council and many local organisations. The number of contributors
is really too long to list but the Chamber would like to congratulate
each one for collectively creating such a great day for the Town
Centre.
Congratulations
should also go to our member The Cornish Times whose official
opening ran along side the Trafalgar Day celebrations. Our thanks
to Jan Eagle, John Noble and their team for their warm welcome,
the marvellous buffet and the guided tour of the now ‘very
impressive’ interior of their Webbs House offices. If you
haven’t already had the opportunity to visit the ‘new
look’ Cornish Times, why not pop in to meet the team –
you are welcome anytime.
The

The Liskeard Chamber of Commerce joined with
hundreds of other exhibitors at this years Liskeard Show in Merrymeet,
to represent its extensive list of members. The show stand was
manned by Patti-Stoyan Donovan from The Collection, Eric Cowan
of Flying Flounder I.T support and Rebecca Morton of Red Snapper
Design.
Visitors to the show were invited to enter The
Chamber’s ‘FREE’ Prize Draw to win a £25
Gift Voucher to spend at the member store, service or café
of their choice. With over 70 local businesses within their membership
there was plenty to choose from and Mole
Valley Farmers proved a popular choice for many of the show’s
entrants. Other popular choices were The Flower Gallery, who provided
the wonderful flower display for The Chamber stand, The Co-Op,
Taylors Motors, Bricknells Toy Shop, The Collection to name but
a few

The winning ticket was drawn at the close of
the Show by Chamber Chairman, Richard Southam of Liskeard Chiropractic
& Health Clinic. Congratulations to the winner, Mr. B. Uglade
of Liskeard who chose The Collection to redeem his £25 Gift
Voucher.
The day was a chance to promote Chamber members
and to discuss issues and business in the town. The current changes
taking place within the town were a hot topic of conversation
with many local people, who were generally supportive and felt
that the recent developments and positive changes in the town
are really starting to pay off. The buzz in Liskeard is a positive
one it seems!
If you feel you could
contribute to helping at another Chamber event, or man a stand
at a show then please do let us know. The Chamber is there for
you and we need to make it work as a team, get in touch with Patti
Stoyan Donovan to put your name forward to help at future events.
Summer
barbeque July 2005

It
certainly was a wonderful evening for our Summer Barbeque and
what a great turn out of members. Our thanks to all who helped
with food and brought wine – we really hope you all enjoyed!
To our hosts Norman & Christine Pampling who looked after
us so well and allowed us the use of their kitchen and fabulous
garden, a very big THANK YOU – it was perfect. Thank you
also to our member Eric Cowen of Dytex Technology (our Chamber
IT provider) for bringing the wonderful homemade burgers and sausages
provided by family Butcher ‘Chris Rounsevell’ based
in Upton Cross, 01579 363598 – thank you Chris, they were
delicious!
For
those who were not able to attend, the evening was also an opportunity
for the Chamber President, Norman Pampling to present a ‘Life
Honorary Membership’ to Roger, Sue, Barry & Shirley
Matthews in recognition of their many years of contribution to
the Liskeard Chamber. We will of course be keeping in contact
with the Matthews and undoubtedly be looking to them for guidance
when our preparations for Christmas begin!
